Connectivity Options

Connection Type

There are six options available for connectivity - four are WiFi based and the other two are Bluetooth. We recommend Wifi as it it more reliable and robust compared to Bluetooth

"Try to connect to Scales, otherwise create Hotspot / Access Point" (default) : This option is WiFi based. Initially the Reader will try and connect to a YardsTech WiFi network setup by the YardsTech® Scales. If it can't find the YardsTech network within 30 seconds, or you press the power button again, it will setup it's own YardsTech hotspot WiFi network.

"Only connect to YardsTech Scales" : This option is similar to above, however the reader will not timeout after 30 seconds. It will continue to look for the YardsTech WiFi network indefinitely, unless you press the power button again.

You can either setup the device to be a WiFi hotspot (also know as a WiFi access point), or you can connect it to an existing WiFi network.

"This device is a WiFi Hotspot / Access Point" : In this mode the YardsTech® Reader will create it's own YardsTech WiFi hotspot. If you press the power button again it will try and search for an existing YardsTech WiFi network.

"This device will connect to an existing WiFi network" : in this mode you can setup the YardsTech® Stick Reader to connect to any existing WiFi network. In this configuration you can enter up to 3 potential networks. When the device is turned on it will search for each of those networks and connect to the first one it can find.

This is useful if you have a number of different networks the device will be working within (i.e. in different locations).

"This device will be a Bluetooth Client" : This sets the YardsTech® Stick Reader up as a Bluetooth client and allows another device to connect to it.

"This device will be a Bluetooth Master" : This sets the YardsTech® Stick Reader up as a Bluetooth master and allows it to connect to other Bluetooth devices. To find discoverable devices located near the YardsTech® Stick Reader, hit the Find Devices button. This process may take up to 30 seconds to complete. You can then select that device from the list of discovered devices. Enter a PIN code, if required into the PIN entry. Press the Test button to test the connection - within a couple of seconds the YardsTech® Stick Reader should connect to the selected device. If no connection is made, please ensure the device is turned on, is accepting Bluetooth connections and you have entered the correct PIN code.
